LONDON, Sept 7 — A clip from the documentary “Dancer” about Ukrainian Sergei Polunin, known as the “bad boy of ballet,” is now available.

Polunin has been described in the media as the “James Dean of the ballet world,” according to Variety, who spotted the story and clip.

Oscar-nomined producer Gabrielle Tana met Polunin in 2012 just after he quit the Royal Ballet in London to pursue acting and subsequently, she began work on the film.

She recalls being inspired by Julie Kavanagh, author of “Nuryev The Life,” the biography of the Russian ballet star Rudolf Nuryev, who had a similarly “bad boy” reputation that thrust the world of dance into popular culture in the 70s and 80s.

Polunin appeared in the video of Hozier’s song “Take Me To Church,” directed by David LaChappelle earlier this year, which earned 12.6 million views on YouTube.

“There was a lot of emotion going on through that dance when I was doing it, so maybe people feel the emotion and the energy, and David’s vision was important as well — the way he filmed it,” Polunin told Variety.
