SINGAPORE, June 9 — John Legend’s “All of Me” has proved to be the most popular song to tie the knot to in the republic.
Spotify yesterday released results of the most popular wedding songs both in Singapore and worldwide, and Legend’s ode to his wife Chrissy Teigen came out on top on both fronts.
Coming in second for wedding song of choice in Singapore was Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” while Adele’s Make You Feel My Love was third. Other popular artistes in the top 20 include Michael Buble, Ingrid Michaelson and Sam Smith.
Having analysed more than 400,000 wedding playlists worldwide, the music streaming service found that romantic ballads are the preferred genre for weddings. Popular wedding songs globally included Bruno Mars’ “Marry You,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and the Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams collaboration, “Blurred Lines.”
Jason Mraz meanwhile, proved to be a global wedding music favourite, scoring three tracks in the global top 20 for matrimonial music, with “I’m Yours, I Won’t Give Up” and his duet with Colbie Caillat, “Lucky.”
When it comes to first dance songs, evergreen classics like Etta James’ “At Last” (second) and Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” (third) hold strong, but it was Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” that ranked first globally. Another track of his, “Tenerife Sea,” came in fifth among songs popular among newlyweds. Train’s “Marry Me” also ranked in the top five, placing at fourth.
