KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — Malaysian actor Bront Palarae will be joining the cast for the new HBO Asia original series “Halfworlds” directed by Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar.

The eight-part hour long series will begin production this week and is set to premiere exclusively on the HBO channel by the end of 2015.

“Halfworlds is a first of its kind series in Asia boasting an ensemble of acting, musical and artistic talents from the region,” said the CEO of HBO Asia Jonathan Spink according to the News Straits Times.

“We are proud to be collaborating with visionary director Joko Anwar, the perfect choice for this latest HBO Asia Original series.”

The series is an Asian dark thriller with a mix of fantastical tale of love, redemption and betrayal set in present day Jakarta, following a young street artist who uncovers her true origins when she finds herself unintentionally caught in between a battle of humans and demons.

Apart from the award-winning Malaysian actor, the series also stars an ensemble cast of leading Indonesian cast including Salvita Decorte, Arifin Putra, Reza Rahadian, Aimee Saras, Adinia Wirasti, Hannah Al-Rashid, Tara Basro Si Boy, Alex Abbad, Ario Bayu, and Verdi Solaiman.

The star-studded cast are also joined by Singaporean singer Nathan Hartono and 8-year old Malaysian child actress Puteri Balqis — the best actress winner of the 2014 Asian Television Awards — who will appear in the series as a guest star. — The Hive Asia
