SINGAPORE, May 8 — Wakin Chau will be returning to Singapore for his solo concert in August, and the veteran Hong Kong singer-songwriter has a few surprises in store for his fans — as well as himself.

“The song request segment in my concert will be quite special this time,” Chau said cheerfully at the interview in Equarius Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa earlier today. He’s here to make an appearance at the “Love From The Star” charity gala dinner and concert on Sunday. “In the past, we would just have members of the audience shout the names of songs they wanted me to sing. And if I heard what they shouted, but had forgotten how to sing the song, I’d just pretend I didn’t hear it.”

This time, Chau said, he will be using a lottery system to select the songs for the segment on stage. The famously absent-minded singer, who said he can’t even remember some of the names of his lesser-known tunes, added that he has spent a significant amount of time going through all his past works and revising them, so he will be able to rise up the challenge.

“I have to be very careful, because I really don’t know what to expect. In Shanghai, for example, one fan actually put in 100 votes for the same song. I drew his request four times!” — TODAY
