LOS ANGELES, Dec 4 — Director Mike Nichols has reportedly left his US$20 million (RM68.7 million) fortune to wife Diane Sawyer and his children.
The renowned director died suddenly last month at the age of 83. And according to his will, filed in the Manhattan Surrogate’s Court yesterday and seen by Page Six, he has divided his belongings among his nearest and dearest.
The 20-page will states several specifics, such as a J.F. Herring painting that Mike left to his son Max. It also states Diane will be the recipient of the rest of Mike’s “tangible property” — such as his cars, clothing and furniture.
The rest of Mike’s fortune, the will continues, will be put into a trust.
However, Mike’s lawyer asked the court while filing the probate to keep the trust documents sealed, in order to prevent any details of how the trust will be divided up being made public.
What is known, however, is that the beneficiaries of the fund are Diane, Max and Mike’s two daughters Daisy and Jenny.
Following Mike’s death, ABC news anchor Diane’s company released a statement passing on their condolences.
“He was a true visionary, winning the highest honours in the arts for his work as a director, writer, producer and comic, and was one of a tiny few to win the EGOT — an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony in his lifetime,” ABC News president James Goldston said.
“No one was more passionate about his craft than Mike.”
The director was behind iconic 1967 movie “The Graduate”, which won him the best director Oscar. He was nominated for several other Academy Awards and had a string of box office successes with the likes of “Working Girl”, “The Remains of the Day”, “Silkwood” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”.
The star was one of just 12 who has received an Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy, with his last movie being 2007’s “Charlie Wilson’s War” which starred Tom Hanks, Amy Adams and Julia Roberts. — Cover Media
