KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Kedah and Johor, cautioning residents to brace for severe weather conditions this morning.
The warning, issued at 8:55 am today, covers Langkawi in Kedah and the districts of Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru in Johor.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to persist in the affected areas until 1:00 pm.
MetMalaysia says the alert was triggered by signs of intense rainfall exceeding 20 mm per hour, either already occurring or anticipated to continue for more than an hour. The warning remains valid for up to six hours from the time of issuance.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain indoors where possible, avoid open spaces and stay away from flood-prone areas until conditions improve.
