LOS ANGELES, Aug 13 — Composed especially for the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” a new Coldplay song, “Atlas,” will be released August 26.
Coldplay will provide a musical contribution to the second installment of the saga starring Jennifer Lawrence.
The British band announced the news Sunday through its official website, although the song in question is still under wraps.
Fans can nonetheless read the lyrics to the new tune on the website while waiting for its release next Monday through iTunes and other digital download platforms.
“Atlas” is the first title of the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” Additional tracks from various artists are likely to be revealed over the coming weeks.
Released last year, the first “Hunger Games” film featured music from Arcade Fire, Taylor Swift and Maroon Five, all on the album “Songs from District 12 & Beyond.”
The sequel to the immensely popular first installment will hit American theaters on November 22.
Moviegoers will once again find Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss Everdeen, a teenager who becomes the only hope for the oppressed citizens of Panem, a despotic version of the United States.
As revolts rise up in the districts, Katniss finds that she has become an icon of resistance.
The young heroine will be forced to return to the arena to participate in the Quarter Quell, which will mark the 75th edition of these lethal games designed to entertain the populace.
This special edition will bring in champions from former years, including Peeta, Katniss’s friend and co-victor in the previous Hunger Games. – AFP
