KAJANG, April 3 — Police are actively searching for a man captured in a viral video allegedly committing an act of sexual harassment at the Kajang MRT station.
Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed in a statement late Thursday that a 23-second video of the incident began circulating on the social media platform Threads at approximately 9.00am.
He said a scene investigation has been conducted at the location of the incident, which occurred at Gate A of the station.
“Through the viral recording, a man is believed to have committed the act. Efforts to track down and arrest the suspect are actively ongoing,” Naazron stated.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person. A conviction carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
Police are urging members of the public with any information about the suspect to come forward. They can contact the Kajang Police Headquarters at 03-89114222 or the investigating officer, Sergeant Nor Atiqah Anuar, at 013-7948922.
Naazron also advised the public not to speculate on the case or to further circulate the video, as it could cause public anxiety.
He warned that spreading the video could lead to action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
