KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 ― Bursa Malaysia remained on a downtrend at mid-afternoon due to continuous selling in selected heavyweights amid a volatile market.

At 3.01pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose eased 0.41 of-a-point to 1,437.71 from yesterday’s closing of 1,438.12.

On the broader market, decliners surpassed gainers 373 to 359 while 442 counters were unchanged, 1,194 untraded and 13 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.86 billion units worth RM1.03 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank lost two sen to RM8.97, Public Bank and Tenaga Nasional slipped one sen to RM4.15 and RM9.84 respectively while CIMB added one sen to RM5.67 and Petronas Chemicals gained 13 sen to RM7.20.

Of the actives, Widad contracted 8.5 sen to 45 sen and Metronic erased half-a-sen to 1.5 sen while Kanger advanced one sen to 12.5 sen, Sarawak Consolidated added 1.5 sen to 54 sen and Revenue went up two sen to 23 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 10.28 points to 10,588.09, the FBMT 100 Index inched up 7.77 points to 10,269.22, the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 13.92 points to 10,811.09 and the FBM 70 Index improved 57.28 points to 13,912.09 but and the FBM ACE Index went down 12.11 points to 5,012.59.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index firmed 0.52 of-a-point to 170.77 points and the Energy Index went up 1.50 points to 869.44 while the Plantation Index inched down 4.68 points to 6,868.93 and the Financial Services Index reduced 15.30 points to 16,188.52. ― Bernama
