KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 ― Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today on persistent selling activities.

At 11.10am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dipped 8.79 points to 1,442.74 from 1,451.53 at yesterday's close, after opening 0.1 of-a-point better at 1,451.63.

Market breadth was negative with decliners outpacing gainers 446 to 237, with 401 counters unchanged, 1,268 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.28 billion units worth RM580.97 million.

Among the heavyweights, CIMB added one sen to RM5.59 and CelcomDigi was flat at RM4.33, while both Maybank and Public Bank shed two sen to RM8.99 and RM4.11, respectively, TNB declined six sen to RM10 and Petronas Chemicals lost 20 sen to RM6.81.

Of the actives, Parkson increased three sen to 35 sen and Perdana Petroleum added one sen to 19.5 sen, while Widad was flat at 44 sen, Bahvest eased 5.5 sen to 31 sen, and KNM slipped half-a-sen to 8.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index discounted 53.42 points to 10,644.56, the FBMT 100 Index contracted 53.91 points to 10,329.95, the FBM Emas Shariah Index went down 67.32 points to 10,865.85, the FBM 70 Index fell 35.41 points to 14,102.57, and the FBM ACE Index eased 34.42 points to 5,251.14.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 1.65 points to 168.46, the Plantation Index was 86.39 points easier at 6,944.21, the Financial Services Index shed 47.75 points to 16,220.48, and the Energy Index gained 1.0 point to 812.27. ― Bernama
