KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 ― Bursa Malaysia stayed higher at mid-morning amid continued interest in heavyweights in tandem with improved sentiment in the region.

At 11.20am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 4.66 points to 1,413.75 from yesterday's closing of 1,409.09, after opening 1.61 points lower at 1,407.48.

Market breadth was positive as gainers led decliners by 379 to 323, while 352 counters were unchanged, 1,237 untraded and 25 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.31 billion units worth RM517.62 million.

Banking stocks led the heavyweights, with CIMB adding seven sen to RM5.28, Hong Leong Bank was 24 sen higher at RM20.30, and Maybank added four sen to RM8.55.

Axiata gained five sen to RM3.01 and Tenaga Nasional bagged seven sen to RM9.40.

Among the actives, BSL Corp went up 1.5 sen to 5.5 sen, Computer Forms increased half-a-sen to 19 sen while Hong Seng Consolidated lost half-a-sen each to 11 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 35.78 points to 10,337.69, the FBMT 100 Index advanced 32.87 points to 10,033.70 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 29.63 points to 10,648.92.

The FBM 70 Index was 42.87 points higher at 13,332.41, while the FBM ACE Index fell 40.62 points to 5,164.89.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index garnered 70.55 points to 15,630.94, the Energy Index perked 12.35 points to 825.78 and the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.35 of-a-point to 168.35, while the Plantation Index dipped 58.57 points to 6,656.17. ― Bernama
