KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 ― Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning on an improved buying sentiment.

At 11.03am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced by 6.56 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 1,408.37 from yesterday’s close of 1,401.81.

The market bellwether opened 5.35 points higher at 1,407.16.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 349 to 260, while 352 counters were unchanged, 1,293 untraded, and seven others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.32 billion units worth RM579.51 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank advanced six sen to RM8.40, Public Bank added three sen to RM3.98, CIMB increased four sen to RM5.19, IHH Healthcare bagged nine sen to RM5.93, Petronas Chemicals fell nine sen to RM6.91, and TNB eased one sen to RM9.46.

As for the actives, Malaysia Building Society went up one sen to 65.5 sen, Velesto edged up half-a-sen 19.5 sen, and Green Packet and Niche Capital were flat at 5.5 sen and 17.5 sen, respectively, while Hong Seng Consolidated shed one sen to 13 sen and Top Glove inched down half-a-sen to 90 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index expanded by 39.38 points to 10,288.49, the FBMT 100 Index improved 39.88 points to 9,987.39, the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 30.79 points to 10,617.10, the FBM 70 Index went up 25.29 points to 13,237.18, and the FBM ACE Index rose 28.71 points to 5,247.44.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index was 75.83 points higher at 15,529.85, the Industrial Products and Services Index grew 0.30 of-a-point to 167.84, the Energy Index perked 7.53 points to 792.74, the Transportation and Logistics Index fell 2.91 points to 905.86, and the Plantation Index weakened 12.02 points to 6,768.45. ― Bernama
