KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 ― Bursa Malaysia extended its earlier decline to end the morning session easier, as profit-taking persisted in industrial products and services as well as telecommunications and media counters.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped to 15.38 points to 1,471.16 from last Friday's closing of 1,486.54.

The market bellwether opened 2.77 points easier at 1,483.77, and moved between 1,469.73 and 1,486.68 throughout the session.

Market breadth however was positive with gainers leading losers 501 to 386, while 320 counters were unchanged, 1,051 untraded, and 67 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.89 billion units valued at RM1.12 billion.

Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.45 per cent to 28,036.52, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng went up 3.85 per cent to 17,964.24 and Singapore’s Straits Times Index was 0.92 per cent higher at 3,269.97.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd expects the FBM KLCI to possibly trend between the 1,485 and 1,500 range today amid a volatile regional performance emanating from China’s zero COVID-19 policy.

“Nonetheless, we may see some headwinds on energy stocks with the Brent crude falling to below US$83 per barrel affected by the latest protests in China,” it said in a research note today.

Among heavyweights, Maybank rose four sen to RM8.71, CIMB gained six sen to RM5.86, Public Bank fell nine sen to RM4.43, Petronas Chemicals dipped 50 sen to RM8.58, while IHH Healthcare lost eight sen to RM5.92.

Of the actives, Advance Synergy and Sapura Energy were half-a-sen higher at 21 sen and four sen respectively, MQ Technology added one sen to five sen, while MMAG was flat at three sen, and Top Glove eased two sen to 89 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index shed 58.42 points to 10,518.37, the FBMT 100 Index shaved off 66.11 points to 10,233.58, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 83.70 points to 10,603.92.

The FBM ACE climbed 23.70 points to 5,215.34 and the FBM 70 put on 81.23 points to 12,719.58.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index fell 11.56 points to 16,687.60, the Industrial Products and Services Index decreased 4.15 points to 181.21, the Plantation Index declined 60.90 points to 6,756.25, while the Energy Index gained 3.75 points to 762.84. ― Bernama
