KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — The ringgit extended yesterday’s gains against the US dollar on continued buying interest, dealers said.
In early trading, the ringgit was quoted at 3.7840/7870 to the greenback versus yesterday’s 3.7945/7975.
At 9.15am, the ringgit was firmer against other major currencies, except the euro.
“The downside is very limited for the ringgit against the greenback.
“Bank Negara Malaysia has strongly signalled that the local note was not trading according to its fundamentals and has intervened at above the 3.8 level several times,” said a dealer.
The local unit was marginally higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.8050/8091 from 2.8062/8092 yesterday and rose against the yen to 3.1075/1112 from 3.1274/1312.
It appreciated against the British pound to 5.8187/8236 from 5.8363/8421, and declined against the euro to 4.1908/1945 from 4.1876/1921. — Bernama
