KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended lower today on subdued buying support in tandem with regional peers, dealers said.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished at 1,717.05, down 17.19 points or 0.99 per cent, after moving between 1,706.60 and 1,728.43 throughout the day.
Market breadth was negative with losers thumping gainers 646 to 158, with 249 counters unchanged, 746 untraded and 22 others were suspended.
Total volume rose to 1.54 billion units valued at RM1.41 billion from 1.45 billion units worth RM1.39 billion.
An analyst said traders remained on the sidelines after the debt-ridden Greece announced that it would reject a bailout offer and might lead its exit from the eurozone.
“This has created negative sentiment on Asian bourses, including the local bourse.
“The current market condition would normalise within one or two weeks but I hope that Greece will stay in the eurozone after returning to the negotiating table,” he added.
Of heavyweights, Maybank fell nine sen to RM9.19, Public Bank slid eight sen to RM18.80, TNB lost six sen to RM12.62, while Axiata was eight sen lower at RM6.37.
Among actives Scan Associates rose half-a-sen to 11.5 sen, Frontken Corporation fell one sen to 26 sen, KNM Group eased 1.5 sen to 59 sen, and APFT Bhd was half-a-sen lower at 20 sen.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index decreased 126.49 points to 11,831.98, FBMT100 Index shed 123.45 points to 11,521.35, FBM Emas Syariah contracted 139.60 points to 12,291.47, the FBM 70 dropped 166.81 points to 12,769.60, and the FBMAce lost 118.68 points to 6,175.12.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index reduced 146.41 points to 15,452.98, Plantation Index fell 41.60 points to 7,420.24 and the Industrial Index was lower by 45.20 points to 3,157.54.
Main Market volume rose to 806.53 million shares worth RM1.21 billion from 776.91 million shares worth 1.22 billion last Friday.
Turnover on the ACE Market eased to 273.10 million units valued at RM66.94 million versus 290.64 million units valued at RM684.29 million.
Warrants advanced to 463.20 million shares worth RM134.24 million against 388.01 million shares worth RM104.69 million.
Consumer products accounted for 90.60 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (163.93 million), construction (30.91 million), trade and services (375.66 million), technology (31.04 million), infrastructure (10.09 million), SPAC (10.64 million), finance (27.15 million), hotels (518,600), properties (39.30 million), plantations (7.46 million), mining (13,000), REITs (19.22 million), and closed/fund (7,800 million). — Bernama
