KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — The sales value for the manufacturing sector in March 2015 rose by 4.4 per cent (RM2.5 billion) to RM58.4 billion from the RM55.9 billion reported in the same month a year ago.

On a month-on-month basis, the sales value was up by 12.1 per cent (RM6.3 billion) compared with the preceding month.

Year-on-year, the increase in sales value for the month under review was contributed by 76 of 138 industries surveyed, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in its Monthly Manufacturing Statistics here today.

“On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month, the sales value in March decreased by 1.2 per cent,” it said.

The department said the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector for the month was 1.029 million persons, an increase of 0.4 per cent compared with the same month of last year.

On a month-on-month basis, the number of employees decreased by 0.1 per cent as compared with the preceding month.

On salaries and wages, the total amount paid in March, has increased by 3.6 per cent (RM107.5 million) to register RM3.081 billion.

As for year-on-year, the salaries and wages paid in March increased by 6.4 per cent (RM185.1 million) as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. — Bernama
