KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened firmer today, riding yesterday’s uptrend momentum, dealers said.

At 9.30am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI stood at 1,820.7, up 6.66 points after opening 1.61 points lower at 1,812.43.

The local bourse ended strongly yesterday on buying interest in selected bluechips amid a stronger ringgit.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index increased 33.2 points to 12,480.08 points, the FBMT100 chalked up 31.569 points to 12,177.14, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index firmed 6.5 points to 13,069.06.

The FBM Ace gained 11.52 points to 6,904.07, but the FBM 70 declined 16.96 points to 13,336.78.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index expanded 92.26 points to 16,096.79 and the Plantation Index was up 15.13 points at 7,810.57, while the Industrial Index eased 4.23 points to 3,333.59.

Gainers led losers 253 to 168 while 244 counters were unchanged, 1,105 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 434.61 million shares worth RM239.28 million.

Among actives, Asia Bioenergy and Genetec added half a sen each to 11.5 sen and 19.5 sen respectively, Privasia gained two sen to 36 sen and Wintoni climbed 1.5 sen to 31.5 sen.

Takaso was flat at 51 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank gained nine sen to RM9.24, TNB earned two sen to RM14.48 and Public Bank improved 16 sen to RM18.58.

Sime Darby lost one sen to RM9.29 and Axiata was flat at RM7.07. — Bernama
