KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 — The ringgit extended loses against the US dollar today, due to a weak risk appetite for the local unit, dealers said.
At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.3460/3480 against the greenback compared with 33.3380/3400 yesterday.
A dealer said the unfavourable third-quarter growth data of 5.6 per cent, the slowest pace for this year, further weighed on sentiment.
Bank Negara Malaysia said, however, growth was higher than the 5.0 per cent achieved in the same quarter last year, driven by resilient domestic demand.
The ringgit was traded mostly higher against other currencies. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.5794/5817 from 2.5840/5873 yesterday, appreciated against the yen to 2.8768/8793 from 2.8890/8913, and strengthened against the British pound to 5.2465/2503 from 5.2644/2682.
It fell, however, against the euro to 4.1705/1740 from 4.1608/1636 previously. — Bernama
