KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened higher on fresh buying support for selected heavyweights ahead of the 2015 Budget announcement on Friday.

At 9.17am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI stood at 1,846.2 points, up 5.38 points, after opening 5.75 points better at 1,846.57 points.

Leading the top gainers’ list was DKSH Holdings, which gained 38 sen to RM6.79, British American Tobacco rose 34 sen to RM68.50 and Hong Leong Bank increased 20 sen to RM14.70.

Heavyweights, Maybank rose 8.0 sen to RM10, Public Bank added 4.0 sen to RM18.84, Tenaga Nasional appreciated 2.0 sen to RM12.58 and Axiata perked 7.0 sen to RM7.06.

Among actives, Censof was up 3.0 sen at 60.5 sen, PA Resources gained 1.0 sen to 13 sen and YGL Convergence added 2.0 sen to 25 sen.

Market breadth was extremely positive with gainers outpacing decliners 217 to 96 with 192 counters unchanged, 1,089 counters untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 142.01 million shares worth RM89.39 million.

On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index increased 26.26 points to 8,332.96 points, the Finance Index soared 82.44 points to 17,195.45 points and the Industrial Index improved 13.8 points to 3,191.42 points.

The FBM Ace advanced 15.59 points to 7,061.53 points, the FBM Emas Shariah climbed 26.27 points to 13,171.7 points, the FBM Emas Index added 30.8 points to 12,883.96 points, the FBMT100 Index jumped 29.95 points to 12,478.37 points and the FBM 70 gained 9.65 points to 14,170.9 points. — Bernama
