KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session mixed today and ahead of the Budget 2015 announcement on Friday, with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) 5.53 points higher.
At lunch break, the benchmark index stood at 1,846.35 points, after moving between 1,842.17 and 1,849.47.
Market breadth was however negative, with decliners outpacing gainers 499 to 201, while 292 counters were unchanged, 602 others untraded and 11 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 905.48 million shares worth RM745.9 million.
Maybank Investment Bank Research in a note said small and mid-cap stocks as well as lower liners may continue to see profit taking.
“Speculative issues may remain range bound for this week,” it added.
Among heavyweights, Maybank improved 5.0 sen to RM9.97, Axiata gained 16 sen to RM7.15, Tenaga Nasional remained unchanged at RM12.56 and Public Bank eased 2.0 sen to RM18.78.
Of the active stocks, Sumatec Resources edged down half-a-sen to 40.5 sen and Censof appreciated 4.5 sen to 62 sen.
On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index earned 18.99 points to 8,325.69 points, the Finance Index advanced 37.18 points to 17,150.18 points, and the Industrial Index added 0.64 of a point to 3,178.26 points.
The FBM Ace declined 45.72 points to 7,000.22 points, the FBM Emas Index gained 12.93 points to 12,866.09 points, the FBM Emas Shariah was up 23.51 points to 13,168.94 points and the FBMT100 Index advanced 23.1 points to 12,470.52 points.But the FBM 70 depreciated 32.92 points to 14,128.33 points. — Bernama
