KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Short-term interbank rates closed steady today following Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) intervention to absorb surplus liquidity from the financial system. 

The liquidity surplus in the conventional system fell to RM17.289 billion from RM52.574 billion in the morning while in the Islamic system, it eased to RM4.228 billion from RM13.696 billion earlier in the day.  

In the morning, the central bank called for six tenders — one conventional money market tender, four repo tenders and one Al-Wadiah tender.

BNM also conducted a RM17.3 billion conventional money market tender and a RM4.3 billion Al-Wadiah money market tender, both for three-day money.

The overnight rate stood at 3.21 per cent while the one-, two- and three-week rates stood at 3.26 per cent, 3.30 per cent and 3.34 per cent, respectively. — Bernama
