SINGAPORE, May 21 — Singapore held on to the top ranking as the best place in the world to do business, the Economist Intelligence Unit said.

Singapore is set to remain the world’s most investor-friendly location until 2018, while Switzerland and Hong Kong retained the second and third positions, the research organisation said in a statement today. Other top-10 regions included North America and Scandinavia, the statement showed.

Favourable policies in finance and foreign investment helped Asian countries retain their top rankings. In East Asia, competition between cities to become hubs for international finance, manufacturing and logistics drove improvements in the business environment, the study showed.

The study measures political risks as well as business operating costs including taxes, financing and labour costs. — Bloomberg
