KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Budget 2027 is officially out, bringing a much-needed financial lifeline to Malaysians feeling the pinch of rising living costs.
Whether you are a gig worker looking to buy your first home, a parent managing back-to-school expenses, or a B40 household needing a monthly cash boost, the latest national budget packs targeted relief for almost everyone.
Here is your complete guide to the assistance schemes you can tap into next year.
Direct cash transfers: STR and SARA payouts
The Rahmah initiatives remain the foundation of the government’s welfare strategy, channelling direct support to lower-income households.
Under Budget 2027, Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) provides up to RM150 a month, capping at RM1,800 annually for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients.
Adult Malaysians missing out on STR will also not walk away empty-handed. They will receive a total of RM200 through two RM100 SARA Madani payouts.
STR recipients (Monthly SARA)
Who qualifies: Approved STR recipients.
Amount: Up to RM150 a month, totalling RM1,800 a year.
How to use: The government credits the funds directly to your MyKad. You can spend this at participating shops, supermarkets, and FAMA farmers’ markets to buy approved daily necessities.
How to apply: Verify your status or update your details via the official MySTR portal.
Non-STR recipients (SARA Madani)
Who qualifies: Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above who do not receive STR.
Amount: RM200 total for the year.
Payout schedule: Expect RM100 just before Hari Raya Aidilfitri and another RM100 ahead of Merdeka.
Education aid: Bigger Bantuan Awal Persekolahan payouts
To ease the perennial headache of back-to-school expenses, the government is increasing the Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) cash aid. Parents will now receive a one-off payment of RM200 per student, a welcome increase from the previous RM150.
Schools will distribute these funds directly at the start of the academic year. Crucially, this aid ignores income brackets and household size. It covers 5.3 million Malaysian students from Year 1 through Form 5 across government, religious, and registered private schools.
Housing perks: Stamp duty waivers and gig worker loans
Budget 2027 slashes the hefty upfront costs of buying a house and opens doors for Malaysians lacking traditional payslips.
Stamp duty exemptions: First-time homebuyers unlock massive savings. The government offers a full stamp duty waiver for properties priced up to RM500,000, and a partial waiver for homes up to RM750,000. Buying a RM500,000 house instantly saves you between RM10,000 and RM15,000.
SJKP financing guarantees: Gig workers, petty traders, and freelancers often struggle to secure mortgages. To fix this, the government is injecting RM20 billion into the Syarikat Jaminan Kredit Perumahan (SJKP) scheme. By acting as the ultimate guarantor, the government helps self-employed Malaysians secure bank loans that would normally face rejection.
Small business support: Cheaper rent for KL hawkers
To keep operational costs manageable for micro-entrepreneurs, the budget extends a crucial lifeline to grassroots traders in the capital.
Vendors operating in licensed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) hawker stalls, markets, and food courts will continue enjoying a 50 per cent discount on their monthly rent.
This relief extends the existing programme, benefiting 10,000 small business premises through to December 2027.
How to check your eligibility
While Budget 2027 casts a wide safety net, your exact eligibility depends heavily on your household status and updated income data.
You can verify your specific entitlements and check your status by logging into the official portal at using your MyKad number.
