ALOR SETAR, Oct 6 — The Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three individuals, including a senior officer from a government agency, on suspicion of giving and receiving bribes amounting to approximately RM155,000.

According to an MACC source, the other two individuals, a civil servant and a company owner are suspected of accepting the bribes in exchange for approving a quotation for the supply of sports attire.

“The suspects, comprising two men and a woman aged in their 40s and 50s, were detained between 5pm and 9pm yesterday while present to give statements at the Kedah MACC office.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that all the suspects allegedly conspired to commit the act between 2024 and 2025,” the statement read.

It added that initial investigations indicated the two civil servant suspects had received the bribes both in cash and via money transfers to their respective personal bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the arrests when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

A five-day remand order against all the suspects, valid until October 10, was issued following an application by the MACC at the Magistrate's Court here this morning. — Bernama
