OTA BHARU, Sept 13 — A 23-year-old Thai man was found drowned in Sungai Golok along the Malaysia-Thailand border near Kampung Pengkalan Pasir and Abe Yie in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas yesterday evening.
Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station chief Hamzah Musa said the victim, Faiz Hasan, was found by Thai authorities at 7.10 pm while a search and rescue operation was underway.
“We received a call from the General Operations Force (GOF) at 6.27 am yesterday regarding an incident in which a person had jumped into the water and did not resurface.
“The search and rescue operation along the riverbank began as early as 7 am before resuming today, involving eight personnel from the Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from several agencies, including the police and a diving unit from Thailand,” he said in a statement.
Hamzah said the victim’s body was taken by Thai authorities for further action, while the search and rescue operation was fully called off at 7.15 pm today. — Bernama
