IPOH, Sept 5 — Police have detained 11 local individuals to assist in investigations into a group attack that left a victim seriously injured in Taman Pengkalan Jaya here on Tuesday (September 1).
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 26-year-old victim was approached by five men travelling in two cars at about 10.30 am, who then chased and assaulted him.
He said the victim, in an attempt to escape, jumped into Sungai Kinta but was slashed with a machete by one of the suspects, sustaining injuries to his face, hands, legs and back.
Mohd Alwi said members of the public later came to the victim’s aid before taking him to hospital for treatment.
“The incident was believed to have been motivated by revenge and dissatisfaction by an organised crime group against the victim,” he said in a statement last night.
Mohd Alwi said all those arrested, aged between 22 and 41, had previous criminal records involving drug offences and violent crimes.
He said they had been remanded to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
Mohd Alwi also urged anyone with information on illegal activities involving organised crime groups to report it through the police operations room’s official channels or at the nearest police station. — Bernama
