KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has received 375 All Terrain Tactical Assault E-Bikes (ATEBs) worth more than RM8 million to strengthen security along the country’s borders.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the electric tactical bikes would be deployed to states bordering Thailand, including Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Perak, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
He said the ATEBs would enhance the capabilities of police personnel, particularly the General Operations Force (GOF), allowing them to conduct border patrols more quickly, quietly and effectively.
“At the same time, tackling leakages, particularly involving petrol and other goods, remains a priority to ensure they do not occur at the border.
“This will help ensure that government revenue is maintained at the highest possible level,” he told reporters after a ceremony to receive the vehicles today.
Also present were Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and RTG Intech Corporation Sdn Bhd management director Mohamad Roslan Ramin.
Mohd Khalid thanked RTG, the supplier of ATEBs, and expressed hope that the strategic partnership would continue to enhance the force’s operational capabilities.
The electric bikes can reach a top speed of 120km/h, deliver up to 850 Newton-metres (Nm) of torque and have an operating range of up to 120km.
They are also equipped with smart chargers and 72-volt, 60-ampere-hour batteries designed for demanding police operations.
The bikes will make their first public appearance during the upcoming National Day parade. — Bernama
