KUANTAN, July 5 — Malaysia will celebrate the World Rural Development Day (WRDD) for the first time at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka near Maran, tomorrow.
The celebration themed “Toward Vibrant, Prosperous and Happy Rural Communities” is organised in recognition of the groups driving national development and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to officiate the celebration.
The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) announced in a post on its Facebook page that the celebration will emphasise three main thrusts, namely community innovation, rural digitization and rural entrepreneur development.
These three thrusts are translated through various initiatives that expand economic opportunities, strengthen access to digital technology and empower communities to be more progressive and competitive.
“This effort also reflects the government’s continued commitment through KKDW in improving the well-being of rural communities,” according to the post.
The historic celebration will feature various activities, including the Rural Aspiration Award Madani, Felda Plan Excellence Award, Launch of My Rural Insight Journal and announcement of Felcra Bhd Interim Distributable Profit Distribution 1/2026.
The public is invited to attend to enliven the celebration which provides various activities and interesting contents at the KKDW exhibition booth and the agencies involved.
World Rural Development Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept 6 2024, setting July 6 as the annual celebration date in conjunction with the establishment of the Centre on Integrated Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP)
The WRDD celebration was held for the first time globally on July 6 2025, while Malaysia became one of the member countries to implement the official celebration starting in 2026. — Bernama
