KULAI, July 4 — Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching has urged all parties to campaign in a harmonious manner after incidents of vandalism involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign materials were reported in several areas in the 16th Johor state election.

The Deputy Communications Minister expressed regret over the political sabotage, which she said should not have happened, although she acknowledged that campaign momentum is now peaking with positive reception from voters.

“This has occurred, including under the Kulai parliamentary constituency, involving tents and campaign materials for the PH candidate for the Bukit Permai state seat, and was also reported in the Mengkibol and Kluang state constituencies, as well as several other areas,” she said.

She told reporters this after attending the “Kalapadam” MINNALfm Musical Programme and the Safe Internet Campaign Carnival here today.

Teo also hoped that all party machinery would maintain a peaceful and civilised campaign atmosphere, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s aspiration to see mature politics practised.

Yesterday, the PH candidate for Bukit Permai, Mohamad Shafwan Ani, claimed that his campaign materials in Bandar Putra had been covered using bunting belonging to another candidate.

Previously, police also opened an investigation paper following a report on incidents of damaged flags and candidate posters belonging to PH within the Mengkibol constituency.

Despite the provocation, Teo expressed confidence that Johor voters would continue to support DAP based on the party’s track record.

“The most important thing is that our record shows the ability to serve the community and carry out responsibilities, whether at state or federal government level, regardless of race,” she said.

PH is contesting all 56 seats in the election, polling for which is on July 11 and early voting on July 7.
