KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he has full confidence in national power company Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s ability to lead Malaysia's energy transition efforts as well as support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure investments in the country.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said that this coupled with the country’s strategic location and competitive investment environment has enabled Malaysia to emerge as a key destination in the global digital infrastructure race.

“We continue to attract major data centre investments, particularly in Johor and Sarawak.

“This raises the stakes – but in this regard, I have full confidence in TNB’s ability to guide our energy transition and to deliver on the promises of AI and energy,” he said at the launch of the Energy Transition Conference 2026 (ETCon26) here today.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and TNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid.

The prime minister also gave the assurance that energy transition will be just, energy secure and AI-driven in the nation's interest.

“That is, and must continue to be, the measure of this work.”

Anwar also commended TNB for again convening ETCon to foster discussions, deliberations and critical dialogue on the energy transition agenda.

The first ETCon was held in conjunction with the National Energy Transition Roadmap in 2023.

Held from June 3 to 5, 2026, ETCon26 by TNB brings together global stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the national energy transition agenda and serve as a global meeting platform that brings together policymakers, technology experts, investors, academics and industry stakeholders from more than 60 countries, with 4,000 delegates participating throughout the three-day event.

Themed “Energy & AI: The Synergy for Energy Transition”, the conference is anchored on three content pillars, namely Energy for AI, AI for Energy and Energy Transition for People, reflecting the growing interdependence between energy systems and digital technologies. — Bernama
