SHAH ALAM, May 9 — A total of 1,675 individuals embraced Islam in Selangor in 2025, reflecting the effectiveness of the state’s systematic conversion management framework, said Mais chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin.
He said 772 individuals, or 82.1 per cent of the total, registered through the Conversion Management Centres (PPP), comprising mosque institutions and Islamic non-governmental organisations (PIBK), while the remainder registered through the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) headquarters and district Islamic religious offices (Paid).
According to him, the achievement reflects growing public confidence in Selangor’s conversion management system.
“In recognition of their role in facilitating and streamlining the registration process in accordance with established procedures, PPP Mais will receive RM94,000 as a token of appreciation,” he said at the PPP 2026 Appreciation and Ukhwah Ceremony held at the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) building here today.
The ceremony also included the presentation of appreciation certificates to recipients for their commitment in strengthening conversion management efforts in the state.
According to Salehuddin, the contributions, funded through zakat allocations, were distributed to 41 PPP centres, with each receiving between RM100 and RM24,400 based on the number of registrations handled throughout the year.
He said the contributions were aimed at encouraging and motivating PPP Mais centres that had efficiently managed conversion registrations throughout 2025.
“It also recognises the important role played by these centres in assisting Mais and the Selangor Zakat Board (Zakat Selangor) in safeguarding the welfare, protection and religious education of converts in the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Salehuddin said the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) was among the main recipients after recording the highest number of registrations, followed by Hidayah Centre Foundation (HCF) and several other dakwah organisations.
He added that Mais currently operates 41 PPP centres across Selangor to provide the public with easier and more effective access to guidance and conversion registration services.
“The centres also play a vital role in providing consultation to individuals intending to embrace Islam, ensuring the decision is made willingly and without coercion.
“We always ensure every procedure is properly followed so that the welfare of converts is protected from the very first day they register under the supervision of Mais,” he said. — Bernama
