KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Parit Buntar MP Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki was today advised to “see a doctor” after he complained of being “hurt” by remarks uttered by a rival MP in the afternoon sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Alice Lau had earlier suggested the PAS lawmaker submit a motion to express his discontent with Jelutong MP RSN Rayer after the DAP representative raised questions about news outlet Harakah’s unsettled debts in the House.

“I don’t think it’s an issue. Please sit down. Please sit down. Last warning please sit down.

“I want the Serian MP to proceed with his speech,” Lau told Mohd Misbahul.

He ignored Lau’s instructions, prompting her to tell him: “If you are unhappy, then file a motion”.

When he again refused to take his seat, Lau said: “See a doctor if your heart is in pain”.

Mohd Misbahul had stood up earlier to express his dissatisfaction with Rayer for raising PAS-owned Harakah’s debts, which he said were matters irrelevant to the current Supply Bill 2024 debate.

The PAS man cited Standing Order 36(9) and described the DAP man’s remarks as causing him heartache.

“He keeps repeating it when what he says has nothing to do with the debate. It is hurtful. It hurts us, it hurts me. Why is this not an issue?” Mohd Mishabul asked.

Standing Order 36(9) states that no reference shall be made in any debate to the conduct or character of any Member of Parliament or of any public servant, other than conduct in the capacity of member of Parliament or public servant, as the case may be.

Rayer had first raised Harakah’s debts on Monday when Mohd Mishabul was debating, and repeated it today.

“I just want to clarify with the deputy speaker, why won’t Parit Buntar answer my question?” Rayer asked, referring to Mohd Mishabul’s call for the Speaker to check on the number of MPs in in the House.

Mohd Mishabul claimed the quorum was insufficient to continue the debate with only 17 or 18 MPs present, out of which seven MPs were from the unity government bloc.

Rayer stood up and claimed that the MPs were attending a briefing by the Education Ministry.

This the second time proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat was halted this month due to lack of quorum.

The first occurred last week when the sitting was halted after a call to check for quorum was called by Perikatan Nasional Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
