KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke urged everyone to accept Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s instructions for government aid to not have the symbol of any political party.

According to a report from Utusan Malaysia, Loke asserted that Anwar’s instructions must be followed by all MPs and ministers regardless of their political affiliation.

"The Prime Minister’s reprimand yesterday was very accurate, all parties must follow it,” the Seremban MP was quoted as saying at an event in a school in Seremban earlier today.

He reportedly added that he had followed the practice even before Anwar’s reminder, saying that he had always provided government allocations with only the national coat of arms on each check replica.

"Even from before, the focus is on the national coat of arms on the check replica because this is a government allocation, so the Prime Minister’s reprimand is accurate.

"This is a government allocation, not money from an individual or party, government allocations must be channeled according to government provisions, there is only one national coat of arms,” he was quoted as saying.

At the event, he had reportedly handed over a check worth RM324,668 to SMK Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad to fund the construction of a covered open hall for the use of the school's students.

Yesterday, national news agency Bernama reported Anwar as saying that the symbol of any political parties cannot be present on any form of government aid given during the by-election campaign for the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state seat.

The Election Commission (EC) has set today as nomination day for the two by-elections.
