JOHOR BARU, June 7 — The Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters today disposed of goods worth RM375,166 that it had confiscated from 2012 until last March after wrapping up case investigations.

Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the disposal involved items in four categories: bitcoin machines, smuggled goods, illegal gambling machines and general items.

“The disposed case items involved 166 investigation papers on cases that have been completed and received court instructions to be destroyed and discarded.

“For the disposal of general case items, it involves 27 investigation papers, including items such as chemical samples, forensic samples, sharp weapons, mobile phones and various other items with a total estimated value of RM1,720.

“We also managed to dispose of hundreds of computer-based machines that were used to harvest digital currency such as bitcoin, involving six investigation papers with a total seized value estimated at RM163,200,” he told reporters at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters here.

Rahmat said police also disposed of various contraband items such as alcoholic beverages and cigarettes of various brands involving eight recorded cases with a total value of RM106,566.

In addition, he said police also disposed of various items that were earlier confiscated from illegal gambling cases such as computers, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets involving 125 investigation papers amounting to RM103,680.

“The disposal of case items can save storage space in the evidence store.

“After this, we will take drastic steps to resolve investigation papers involving previous case items to avoid using the storage areas as a dumping ground,” said Rahmat.
