JOHOR BARU, June 6 — Police arrested two men yesterday in connection with impersonating the authorities and chasing a vehicle at KM41.5 of the North-South Highway near the Sedenak exit in Kulai.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said a team of policemen from the Kulai Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two local male suspects at 6pm.

He said the suspects, aged 43 and 48, were identified as a civil servant, while another had a previous record for a drug case.

“Police also seized a luminous vest, a portable beacon light, a Fenix E35 flashlight, headlights and a Honda City car with its keys.

“Police will apply for remand proceedings against the suspects at the Kulai Magistrate’s Court today,” said Kamarul Zaman in a statement here.

The state’s top cop had earlier said investigators believed that the two suspects are able to assist investigations into a case where three suspects were wanted for impersonating police.

Kamarul Zaman said the suspects were seen dressed as policemen in an unmarked car with blue beacon lights chasing a vehicle on the expressway.

“The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967.

“Police called on the public to channel any information on suspected criminal activity to assist in apprehending the suspects,” he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that police were on the lookout for three men after a video footage was uploaded on Facebook yesterday showing three men in a car chasing another vehicle at KM41.5 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) near the Sedenak exit in Kulai.
