PONTIAN, April 19 — A 36-year-old angler has been reported missing and is feared drowned after he failed to return home after a fishing trip in the coastal areas of Jeti Air Masin in Kukup, Johor yesterday.
The missing man, identified as Mohd Hairul Khalid, left his house here to go fishing at 8am yesterday and has not returned home since.
Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue station operations commander Assistant Fire Officer Mahadir Mamat said they received a distress call regarding the missing person at 7.39pm.
Following that, he said the station immediately despatched 11 firemen assisted by a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit to the scene.
“Firemen have conducted a land route search and rescue operation from Jeti Air Masin to the fishing village area, covering a distance of about 500 metres," he said in a statement today.
Mahadir said the search had to be halted earlier at 12am due to unfavourable weather conditions before resuming this morning.
