KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the unity government to practise the balance emphasised in the Quran when making policies.

He said this is to ensure the comprehensive implementation of each policy at every level of society.

“That’s why we cannot simply destroy the hills, cut down the trees, because there’s no equilibrium or balance (practised)... when damage happens, it will always affect the people, especially those who are poor.

“When a person is appointed as a minister, he represents all the people, which means the people’s concerns must be heard and the government’s policies must take into account the balance mentioned in the Quran,” he said in his speech at the Nur Ramadan programme here today.

Also present was Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Anwar also said that Malay and Muslim leaders must set a good example for the community.

“Let people see that there are Malays who are clean and not corrupt, caring and concerned about the plight of the poor,” he said.

In conjunction with Nuzul Quran which is observed today, Anwar called on Muslims to take advantage of it to read, digest and understand the holy verses of the Quran.

At the event, the Prime Minister handed over a cash donation of RM200 to 300 asnaf and hardcore poor from the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency.

A total of 3,300 people received the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur’s Nur Ramadan donation this year. — Bernama
