KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin are close to securing their spots as Umno vice-presidents tonight, with the latter defending his post.

Umno’s scoreboards showed both men garnered 67 and 64 votes each at the time of writing pending an official announcement, followed closely by Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who came in with 53 votes so far.

Others who would likely miss out on the vice president spots were Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, former Johor menteri besar Datuk Hasni Mohamad and relative unknown Mohd Yusof Musa.

The two outgoing vice-presidents were Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Mahdzir Khalid, who both did not defend their posts.

A total of 189 divisions, which included 164,000 members, took part in voting the past two months.

Apart from the vice-presidency, the Umno Supreme Council seats were also up for grabs, where 89 candidates took part.

Previously, Merlimau assemblyman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh won the Umno Youth chief post, defeating three other candidates.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad managed to defend her post as Wanita chief against the previously retired Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, formerly the Puteri deputy chief, is now leading the wing.
