SANDAKAN, March 17 — The body of a Filipino man who jumped off a ferry last Wednesday (March 15) while being repatriated to the Philippines was found drowned.
According to a Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) statement, the victim was identified as Razmel Abdul Rahim, 31.
His body was found by Marine Police at 8.39am today.
“The body of the victim was found at the second Sandakan Port jetty some 600 metres from the location where the victim jumped. His body has been handed over to the police for further action,” said the statement.
Yesterday, JBPM received an emergency call at about 10am about a ferry passenger who suddenly jumped through a window from the fourth floor of the ferry at 6.45pm on Wednesday.
The ferry manager, who witnessed the incident contacted the Sandakan district police headquarters at 8 pm on Wednesday and a team from the Fire and Rescue Department was immediately sent to the scene to begin a search and rescue operation. — Bernama
