KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he is not involved with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) latest investigation into Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He added that it would be unfair to call the investigation “politically motivated” as the former prime minister has not been charged to date.
“Whether you agree or not, look at the case and what the apparent charges and allegations are.
“We still do not know the results of the investigation since he has been called only very recently.
“But if you said all cases are politically motivated, then how are we going to arrest people for big corruption cases?” said Anwar after officiating the KL Park Festival 2023 here today.
He added that it is MACC’s responsibility to investigate any corruption allegations.
He stressed that those who are concerned about having a corruption-free country should pay attention to the facts of the case before claiming that the investigations were politically motivated.
“As I have been saying all this time, the investigations into Jana Wibawa and flood mitigation project related charges are from the documents of Ministry of Finance, not from MACC or the Attorney General’s Chambers,” said Anwar about two senior Bersatu members who was recently charged with alleged soliciting and accepting bribes for Jana Wibawa projects.
Rumours were rife yesterday that Muhyiddin had been detained by MACC officers, along with his eldest son Fakhry.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, however, took to Facebook to deny the claims, but said he had been asked to present himself at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.
He arrived at the MACC headquarters at around 11am today to answer questions about the use of his coalition’s funds during the 15th general election last November.
