KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that a project dubbed Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (RWGS) will be a contingency water source for up to two weeks if pollution occurs that could disrupt the water supply in Klang Valley.
During a press conference at Parliament today, he said that the project will 40 per cent completed by the third quarter of this year.
“This will ensure at least five days of uninterrupted water supply even if pollution occurs,” he said.
He also said that the project launched in 2020 will ensure that the raw polluted water will be diverted from the water treatment plants.
“Raw water from the storage ponds would instead be channelled to the treatment plants which can supply water between five days and two weeks,” he added.
On February 11, the odour pollution incident at the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant intake area caused the shutdown of three other water treatment plants, Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 as well, but all plants resumed full operations the next morning.
