KOTA KINABALU, Jan 5 — Sabah Pakatan Harapan's (PH) seven state assemblymen today claimed that they did not sign any new statutory declarations supporting any parties amidst the latest power tussle.
In a joint statement, the seven assemblymen said that have not declared their support for any party since 2020, referring to their support for Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal then.
"If there are any party that claims to have gotten support from us, it is untrue, unless they are referring to our last statement in November last year at the state assembly,” they said.
Sabah Pakatan Harapan leader Datuk Christina Liew was quoted in media reports on November 25 as saying that PH would support Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS chairman, until the end of the term.
Their statement comes as GRS faces a potential power takeover from Parti Warisan and BN.
GRS, who has 29 out of the 79-seats in the state assembly is confident of maintaining its hold of the government with the support of the seven PH lawmakers.
The seven, in their statement, said that the coalition has not yet decided on its stand but will move en bloc.
"We have been observing the political developments carefully in the state and have discussed the matter amongst ourselves.
"We will decide on our stand en bloc to ensure the continued political stability in Sabah by way of its administration continues smoothly," they said.
However, in an amended version of the statement, they said they were against any government formed through the “the back door”.
“Any attempt to form a new government should be done by constructive agenda and good politicies. If not, this will only anger the people who will see politicians as greedy for power,” they said.
The statement was co-signed by all seven assemblymen from Sabah PKR, DAP and Upko.
Hajiji’s reign as chief minister is hanging in the balance as Parti Warisan and Umno are widely expected to join forces and claim majority support for Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to take over.
Some 12 state assemblymen from Warisan have gathered at a hotel here since a surprise press conference was called at 4.30pm. They are believed to be waiting for Shafie and Sabah BN chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin to make the announcement.
Warisan has 19 state assemblymen, while Sabah BN has 17. GRS has 26 assemblymen.
