KOTA KINABALU, Nov 20 — The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Sabah Barisan Nasional will work with Sarawak’s Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to establish a Borneo bloc and form the federal government with a national coalition that can bring the most benefit to the two states.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that he had spoken with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and both had agreed to support a federal government that can bring stability to the nation and the two states.

"We want to work together on a Borneo bloc to support the federal government that can bring benefit to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said when speaking to reporters at Seri Gaya, his official residence.

Hajiji, who is GRS and Sabah Bersatu chairman, said that the 14 seats won in Sabah from GRS, BN and Perikatan Nasional will move together en bloc but said it could not decide which coalition it will work with yet as the full results have yet to be announced by the Election Commission (EC).

“We will issue another statement once the official results are out,” he said.

Hajiji said that he had a discussion with Sarawak Premier and they reached an agreement to support whichever government that can bring political stability in Sabah and for the country.

“As far as we know, GRS and BN won 13 seats and PN won one, and these seats will be brought to support a government that will bring stability to us,” said Hajiji.

When asked how will he choose their partners to form a government with, he said that any party that can make a good offer for the state will be seriously considered.

When asked whether the decision would be based on the party with the bigger mandate, he did not answer.
