KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 ― A PKR lawmaker who was thought to be in the party’s former deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s camp has denied that he ever left the party and has no aspirations to join Bersatu.

Ranau MP Johnathan Yasin in a Facebook posting said he remains a PKR member and will clarify everything with the party’s leadership council and political bureau later today.

“Salam. For the record, I am still in PKR. At the same time, I also deny that I have given my agreement to leave the party. I will clarify this matter with the party’s committee/bureau later this afternoon,” Johnathan posted.

In his post, the Sabahan MP also shared the picture of a Malay newspaper article titled “Azmin, 10 ahli Parlimen PKR mahu sertai Bersatu” (Azmin, 10 PKR MPs to join Bersatu).

After Gombak MP Azmin and his right-hand Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin was sacked from PKR on February 24 before they had a chance to quit the party, nine other PKR lawmakers decided to follow them to form an independent bloc.

The 11 MPs had issued a joint press statement with Johnathan being one of the signatories. He has since then signed every joint press statement issued by the group.

The country is currently in political turmoil with no clear government after Langkawi MP Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had tendered his resignation as prime minister and Bersatu chairman.

The Yang diPertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin had then asked Dr Mahathir to remain as interim prime minister.

Over the past two days, the Agong had also interviewed each MP individually to see who they support as prime minister.

Today, the King has granted Dr Mahathir an audience and the interim prime minister had left the palace grounds after a one-hour meeting.

His Majesty is expected to call in Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in as well.
