PUTRAJAYA, July 3 — Syed Saddiq Syed Abd Rahman clocked in at 8.45am today as the new youth and sports minister with the promise to continue investigations into suspected abuses before his appointment.

The youngest minister at 25 added that his intention to do so is not out of spite or revenge.

“However, I do not want the administration of this ministry to be painted and shaped by the culture of revenge.

“I do not want to show my capabilities just by bringing down the good that was achieved by the ministry and only highlighting the bad,” he told reporters here.

Syed Saddiq said he planned to focus on what he has to offer as minister and ensured that past mistakes would not be repeated.

He said he will continue previous programmes that are worthy and improve areas that need attention.

“KJ left a good legacy, I have big shoes to fill,” he said, referring to predecessor Khairy Jamaluddin.

“I look forward to work with all past leadership. We have to move forward together because everyone has a role to play,” he said.

Among those who greeted him when he arrived at the ministry was his deputy, Steven Sim, and secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali.
