PETALING JAYA, May 22 — Red Shirt movement leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been taken into custody by police for brandishing a weapon in public space after several viral photos were circulated on social media.

Selangor police chief Datuk Pahlawan Mazlan Mansor said a police team from the contingent’s Criminal Investigations Department made the arrest at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Ampang just now at 1.15pm today.

“The arrest was made following a report lodged on May 12 against him and Jamal is detained at the hospital as he is undergoing medical treatment,” he said.

It is understood the police report against Jamal was lodged by a Kuala Langat Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia member claiming Jamal had deliberately brandished his firearm on his hips to intimidate the public as shown in a photo that has gone viral.

The case is being investigated under Section 34 of the Arms Act for being intoxicated or behaving in a disorderly manner while carrying a firearm which carries a jail term of not more than a year or a fine not more than RM1,000 or both upon conviction.
