KOTA KINABALU, May 7 — The swirling allegation that Malaysia is now bankrupt is not true, said Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

“There are certain people alleging that Malaysia is now bankrupt. These allegations are certainly not true.

“If our economy is not doing good, how can we (the government) give back to the people?,” he said this in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for Dewan Inanam project here, today.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, State Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Datuk Hajah Jainab Ahmad and Mayor of Kota Kinabalu Datuk Yeoh Boon Hai.

Furthermore, Mohd Irwan said that the increase of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was also a reflection of our country’s steady economic growth. — Bernama
