BEAUFORT, May 7 — Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak promised RM15 million worth of projects to develop the Sabah district of Beaufort if the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition is re-elected into government on May 9.

In an overnight trip to Sabah, BN chairman Najib promised the west coast district funds for development projects during his trip here.

“I shall reserve RM15 million for the Beaufort parliament district. This is for all three seats to share,” he said today, referring to the Klias and Kuala Penyu state seats.

“We will give projects to Beaufort so that they can continue to develop. But promise us you will support BN this May 9,” he said.

Najib pleaded with the people to give BN the mandate in all three seats, as they currently have Beaufort parliamentary and Kuala Penyu state seat, while Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah is the incumbent in Klias.

This is Najib’s third visit to Sabah in a month and the second within the campaigning period to canvas votes for the BN stronghold state.

He visited Semporna and Tawau on April 9 and Sandakan and Tawau again on April 30.

This morning, Najib was in the interior district Keningau at 8am where he launched an Urban Transformation Centre building — the one-stop hub for all government agencies that opens daily — before meeting people in Beaufort. He is going to Kota Marudu later today.

“The mood is good, we are well received. The machinery is in high spirits,” he said.

When asked whether he is confident of winning the Opposition seats, he said, “We will do our level best. I think the voters know which party to vote for.”

In his speech earlier, Najib continued his criticism of the Pakatan Harapan pact’s prime ministerial candidate Tun Dr Mahathir, saying the 92-year-old former government leader is too old to run the country again.

“Why would we want him? He doesn’t love Sabah. In these 11 days, he didn’t come here once.

“Between me and Mahathir, who loves Sabah? So this time, you know who to support,” he told the crowd of 5,000 BN supporters clad in blue at the Beaufort tamu who were each given the coalition’s flags to wave.
