MUAR, April 30 — Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein zeroed in today on the inexperience of Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Muar, branding the latter a political “kitten”.
The senior Umno vice president advised Muar voters not to put their faith in the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Youth chief, saying the latter would not know what was important to residents in the area as he has no ties to the seat.
“He is just a kitten. Why do they bring up national issues, because the kitten does not know the issues in Muar as he never came down to Muar (before).
“He cannot influence older voters. He is only close to the youth as he is clueless to what BN have done for Muar,’’ Hishammuddin said at the Jalinan Kasih program at Umno Muar headquarters here today.
The 25-year-old has had to fend off criticism of his age as well as claims that he was out of touch with older voters.
A relentless Hishammuddin also took aim today at Syed Saddiq’s portrayal of himself on social media, saying the reality was far different from what the young candidate conveyed.
He then asked if Muar voters were content with letting a political rookie dictate matters to them.
“We are facing a new a person who is new in politics yet in social media he depict himself as if he is that great, but he is not,’’ he said.
Syed Saddiq is challenging BN’s incumbent Datuk Razali Ibrahim as well as PAS candidate Abdul Aziz Talib here.
