MUAR, April 25 ― Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin’s position as Johor mentri besar after GE14 is shaky and the reason why he is contesting two seats, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claimed today.
“It is not unusual for him (Khaled) to contest two seats however perhaps he do so because his position (in the state government) is weakened,” the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president told reporters today.
Khaled will be contesting the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat and the Permas state seat.
Besides Khaled, among the others BN candidates who will be contesting two seats are ― Kelantan BN chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to contest the Jeli parliamentary constituency and Air Lanas state constituency and Perak BN chief Zambry Abdul Kadir to contest in Lumut parliamentary seat and Pangkor state seat.
Muhyiddin himself is contesting two seats, and is reportedly Pakatan Harapan’s choice for Johor MB if the party wins the state.
Commenting further on BN’s list of candidates, Muhyiddin said that there are many “old faces”, but at same time advised party members to be humble and to not underestimate their opponents.
Earlier, Muhyiddin handed out the official letter of candidacy to 82 of PH Johor candidates.
On PPBM candidate list, Muhyiddin said last minute tweaks is normal as they constantly assess the situation on the ground.
This follows the withdrawal of Najwa Halimah, PPBM Pulai deputy chief from contesting the Benut state seat on April 19, the same day she was announced to contest the seat.
She has been replaced with Zulkifli Tasrib, PPBM Division Chief for Pontian.
